The legacy of Austrian painters truly begins to shine during the Baroque period (17th–18th centuries), when the Habsburg Empire fostered artistic excellence across its domains. One of the most celebrated figures from this period is Johann Björn Edman (1666–1749) and Daniel Gran (1677–1757), but arguably the towering icon is Johann Michael Rottmayr (1657–1733).
